N-400 Applicants May Now Update Citizenship Status with the Social Security Administration via Form N-400

|

Starting April 1, 2024, naturalization applicants who file for citizenship using the new 04/01/24 edition of Form N-400 will have the option to authorize U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to update their immigration status to U.S. citizen with the Social Security Administration (SSA) and to request an original or replacement social security card.

Applicants who select these options will not need to visit an SSA office to update their immigration status or obtain a new card. Because this benefit is only available to applicants using the new version of Form N-400, it is important to ensure applicants who desire to take advantage of this benefit submit the updated form. Applicants who do not include the card request and disclosure authorization must visit an SSA office to receive a new card and to update their immigration status.
