Naturalization applicants must show continuous residence in the U.S. for the required period — generally five years, or three for those married to a U.S. citizen — without extended absences that break that continuity.
A single trip abroad of six months or longer can create a presumption that continuous residence was broken, and trips of a year or more generally reset the clock entirely.
We help clients review their travel history before filing the N-400, identify any red flags, and prepare explanations or documentation for trips that might otherwise raise questions.
