Protection for Victims of Crime Globally Based in Dallas

Individuals who have been the victim of a qualifying crime in the United States may be eligible to apply for U nonimmigrant status. Individuals who have been the victim of a qualifying crime in the United States who are no longer in the United States may be eligible to apply for a U visa.

U status provides individuals four years of protected status with work authorization. While an individual’s application remains pending, he or she may receive deferred action as well as work authorization.  Deferred action is a discretionary benefit that authorizes individuals to remain in the United States for the duration of the deferred action period.

Contact Akula & Associates P.C. online or call (844) 299-5003 to speak with a U visa attorney in Dallas. We help clients nationwide and our services are available in Thai, Laos, Mandarin Chinese, Taiwanese/Hokkien, Yoruba, Polish, Spanish, Nepali, Hindu, Urdu, Telugu and English.

Requirements for U Status or a U Visa

If you are a victim of a qualifying crime, report it to the police and are willing to help law enforcement authorities in the investigation or prosecution of the criminal activity, you may be eligible to apply for U status or a U visa. Examples of qualifying crimes include, but are not limited to domestic violence, felonious assault, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, kidnapping, sexual assault, stalking, and other crimes. An applicant must demonstrate that he or she has suffered substantial physical or mental abuse as a result of having been a crime victim. The applicant must also demonstrate that he or she has information about the crime and has been helpful (or is likely to be helpful) to law enforcement’s investigation or prosecution of the criminal in court. The qualifying crime must have occurred in the United States or have violated United States law.

U status and U visa applicants must demonstrate that he or she is admissible to the United States. If a U status or U visa applicant is inadmissible due to a prior immigration offense such as entering the United States without permission or receiving a removal order from an immigration judge, he or she may be eligible to apply for a waiver that will allow the applicant to receive the requested immigration benefits.

Family Members of Victims of Qualifying Crimes

Applicants may be eligible to sponsor children or spouses through this program. Applicants who are under 21 years of age may be eligible to sponsor spouses, children, parents and unmarried siblings in some cases.  If your relative resides outside of the United States, it may be possible for them to obtain a U visa from a U.S. consulate abroad that will allow them to join you in the United States.

Just a quick note to let you know how pleased we were with the services we received from your law firm. Akula & Associates provided us with an amazing, valuable resource and experience. I have worked with numerous law firms in my 10 year as a business owner but the experience with your firm was professional and personal. Frankly speaking, you and your staff were available, down to earth, and cut through a lot of the B.S. lines. I have nothing but good things to say about our experience with your firm.

    "Thank you all!"

The attorneys and paralegals and their assistants at Akula Law in Dallas handled my immigration case for the US efficiently, with care and with attentive responses to questions. Katrina was our lawyer for the remaining few months of our case, originally started by Daniele. Also with Erika and Christie helping us, and despite COVID-19 I finally arrived in the US in June and we couldn’t be happier. Thank you all!
